Siege_Sullivan County Democrat
Siege by Simon Kernick (Atria). It’s all thriller week, you’ll have begun to gather. This one is a big, action-packed tale by an author I’ve overlooked. I’d call it a siege novel if the author hadn’t pre-empted the word for his title, but that’s just what it is; a big London hotel is in the grip of terrorists, creating hour-by-hour escalating violence. A shrewdly assembled cast of characters has a variety of incentives to be heroic or not, and even the terrorists, though in the final analysis they’re certainly bad guys, nevertheless have enough depth to be believable. Excellent fun; don’t wait for the surely inevitable movie.
